Siemens; ABB lifted to conviction buy at Goldman: ABB, Siemens, Schneider to Gain From Demand for Smart Grids, Goldman Says (SI; ABB)

ABB Ltd., the world’s biggest electricity-networks builder, Siemens AG and Schneider Electric SA will be “key beneficiaries” of investments in so-called smart grids as they have the greatest operational and financial involvement in the field, Goldman Sachs said.

“The need to integrate renewable-energy generation and electric vehicles into the underlying grid and the future requirement to meet increasing power quality demands emphasize the ultimate importance of a smart grid,” Goldman Sachs analysts, including Daniela Costa in London, said in a research report.

The broker raised its recommendation on Munich-based Siemens, Europe’s largest engineering company, to “conviction buy” from “buy.” Goldman gave Zurich-based ABB a “conviction buy” recommendation and upgraded Schneider to “buy” from “neutral.” 

Investments totaling $750 billion may be required to upgrade existing power networks in the next 30 years, Goldman Sachs said in the report released yesterday. This could lead to a 33 percent increase in global annual investment on power transmission and distribution by 2019, the analysts said....MORE
